Characteristics of diaphragm type pulse damper

2020 02/14

Diaphragm type pulse damper / pulse damper, also known as pulsation damper and pulsation buffer, is a common component to eliminate pipeline pulsation and a necessary accessory of metering pump. Pulsation damper can smooth pipeline pulsation and water hammer caused by displacement pumps such as plunger pump and diaphragm pump. The gas is separated from the liquid in the pipeline by a corrosion-resistant diaphragm, and the pipeline pulsation is smoothed by the change of the volume of the gas chamber.

Main functions:
1. Reduce the harm of removing water hammer to the system.
2. Decrease the peak value of velocity fluctuation.
3. Protect the pipeline, elbow and joint from the impact of pressure fluctuation.
4. For the metering pump to create a good working environment and improve the performance of the pump.
5. Allow the system to use smaller pipe diameter and reduce cost.
6. With the use of back pressure valve, the pressure fluctuation of pipeline can be close to zero.

7. Reduce the energy consumption of the system.

The material is PVC PP PVDF 304, 316, etc.
The diaphragm type pulse damper is divided into upper and lower shells, which are separated by polytetrafluoroethylene rubber composite diaphragms. It is the most commonly used pulse damper. The biggest advantage is that the diaphragm separates the pre charged gas from the liquid in the pipeline, which is convenient for maintenance. Under the appropriate selection and charging conditions, it can reduce most of the pulses. The maximum pressure resistance of PVC, stainless steel and diaphragm pulse damper is 1.0MPa, 2.5MPa and 5.0mpa respectively.

Volume selection method: multiply the volume number (ML) of each stroke by 10 to get the minimum volume that can reduce the pulse by 90%.

Design features:
Diaphragm structure, media and compressed gas separation, ensure long-term stable operation.
Only the lower shell and diaphragm are in contact with the medium part. The conventional diaphragm is made of rubber lined Teflon. The Teflon is subject to multi-directional rolling treatment, with good corrosion resistance and high service life.

Scope of application:
Chemical industry, water treatment, laboratory, petroleum industry

Corrosive liquid

Characteristic parameters:
PVC material withstand pressure is 1.0-1.6mpa, stainless steel (carbon steel material) withstand pressure is 2.5MPa, 5MPa and 10MPa
Safety test pressure: 1.5 times of Zui large input pressure

Applicable temperature: ordinary diaphragm - 5 ℃ to + 80 ℃);

Texture of material:
Shell material: PVC, SS304, SS316L, PVDF, PP, carbon steel, etc. (can be customized as required)
Diaphragm material: rubber lined Teflon

Use of pulse damper

Collision shall be avoided during the installation to prevent the shell from cracking. During the installation, sufficient space shall be reserved around the pulse damper to facilitate the pre filling of gas and future maintenance and adjustment of the pulse damper. There shall be damping materials between the pulse damper and the fixed support to absorb the vibration energy of the pulse damper shell and prevent resonance. Pre charge nitrogen or argon before use, and the pressure is 50% - 80% of the average pressure of the system. If it is installed at the pump outlet, it is recommended to pre charge 50% of the pressure. If it is installed at the pump inlet, it is recommended to charge 70% - 80%. If it is not used for a long time, the precharge gas shall be discharged to prolong the service life of the diaphragm. It is better not to charge air, which will reduce the service life of the diaphragm.

When using, the pointer of the pressure gauge should swing slightly. If the swing is too large, it means that the pressure of the precharged gas is too small or the model selection is too small. If the swing is not large, it means that the pressure of the precharged gas is too large or the pipeline is blocked.

Preservation of pulse damper

Clean the residual medium in the pulse damper, exhaust the oxidizing gas in the air chamber, and release the gas in the air chamber, so that the internal and external pressure of the same dry pulse damper is sealed in the plastic film. Due to aging of the diaphragm and other reasons, it is not easy to keep the pulse damper for a long time (preferably not more than 2 months).

matters needing attention:

1. It is better to install it near the pump to smooth the pulsation.

2. Vertical installation is better than horizontal installation.

3. The higher the precharge pressure is, the better.

4. Avoid resonance with the system

5. When it is used together with the back pressure valve, it shall be installed between the pump and the back pressure valve to absorb the peak flow between the pump and the back pressure valve. Slow down the wear rate of back pressure valve.

6. The pulse damper shall be used indoors to avoid direct sunlight, keep away from fire source and heat source. Protective shed or cover shall be added for outdoor use.

7. If the pipeline liquid is dangerous goods, the pulse damper shall be equipped with protective cover to prevent the spilled materials from damaging human body or polluting the environment after the shell is broken.
